With all the paper, packaging and junk mail of modern life, we now produce more household waste in the Anglia region than ever before.
In 2001 households in East Anglia produced 2.7 million tonnes of rubbish. Your household contributed about 1.2 tonnes of rubbish, equivalent to 150 refuse sacks.
84% of this rubbish is buried in the ground in landfill sites. But these sites are filling up and new ones are very hard to find. As the number of households in East Anglia continues to rise so does the volume of rubbish.
