The 2001 Slim Your Bin Roadshow toured East Anglia to promote the Get Composting message to people across the region. Anglia Television worked in partnership with councils in the Anglia region to encourage people to reduce the amount of waste produced by home composting. The challenge was to get people of all ages to see how and why composting helps the environment and reduce waste that otherwise would go to landfill.
Why Composting?
Home composting is simple, natural and saves money. Composting is better for the environment than burying or burning kitchen and garden waste. When ready to use, compost is good for plants growing in garden soil, patio pots and window boxes.
22 roadshows toured around the region spreading the Get Composting message far and wide.
More than 30,000 Slim Your Bin packs containing leaflets and other composting goodies were distributed in High Streets, town centres and special events throughout the region.
Lots of local councils were able to tie in the campaign with special offers on compost bins.
Jugglers, stilt walkers, games and lots of free give aways attracted an estimated audience of 120,000+ people to the roadshows
Thousands of people in the Anglia region are now carrying out home composting to reduce the amount of waste going to landfill.
Pupils at Ashbeach School, Ramsey St Mary's beat off tough competition to scoop a top prize in the regional schools Get Composting competition.
The SLIM YOUR BIN campaign is a partnership between councils in the Anglia Region,
supported by Anglia Television and Viridor Waste management.
